The Color of Magic
Enter a World of Enchanted Excitement
Inside a magical realm known as Discworld, a naive tourist is on holiday until a terrible fire breaks out, forcing him to flee along with an incompetent wizard. As the clueless pair set out on a magical journey across the disc, neither realizes that they are merely pawns in an elaborate board game being played by the Gods. After encountering a pair of barbarians, they take a trip to an inverted mountain housing dragons that only exist in imagination, survive a fall off the edge of the disc and attempt to beat the wizard’s former classmate to a collection of spells that could save Discworld from total destruction.

This DVD consists of two parts, two movie length features. I was looking forward to this but really had a tough time watching part 1 and did not bother to watch part 2. My wife and kids could not stomach anymore either. Sean Astin, who I thoroughly enjoyed in L.O.T.R.'s, did not have his heart in this one. It appears as though he has never acted before or could in fact act. Read the book instead! The movie's ok, but I recommend the books. - Barb1
Terry Pratchett's colourful and imaginative world has trouble coming alive in movie format. The asides and the humour just don't seem to come through. This movie had its little delights, but Pratchett's wry observances on human nature just don't get full play. Some big names in this movie, along with some special effects with a big gee whiz factor. But in other ways, you could see where they cut the budget - a character pretending to ride on a horse, for instance, rather than having an actual horse. It was ok. Pratchett fans are devoted and probably won't be able to resist. As good as the books - orange
I've been a fan of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books for years. I've read them all. I had seen some of the british cartoons of the discworld series and they were poorly done so I was leery on renting this one. But this one isn't a cartoon and it was well done. It was neat to see the writers perception on how he wanted the characters and the world to look. I hope they come out with more of these movies.
