A Perfect Getaway
Includes Both the Unrated (108 mins) and Theatrical (97 mins) Versions of the Movie
Cliff and Cydney (Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich) are an adventurous young couple celebrating their honeymoon by backpacking to one of the most beautiful, and remote, beaches in Hawaii. Hiking the wild, secluded trails, they believe they've found paradise. But when the pair comes across a group of frightened hikers discussing the horrifying murder of another newlywed couple on the islands, they begin to question whether they should turn back.
Unsure whether to stay or flee, Cliff and Cydney join up with two other couples, and things begin to go terrifyingly wrong. Far from civilization or rescue, everyone begins to look like a threat and nobody knows whom to trust. Paradise becomes hell on earth as a brutal battle for survival begins...

Milla time is quality time - armadillo
I gave this three stars simply because I enjoy watching Milla Jovovich in movies, no matter how bad the movie. Either way, I found the twist near the end just weirdly illogical: Cliff and Cydney behave way too believably in their assumed identities, for example in the scene where the two couples observe each other from opposite sides of the river. I should say the happy conclusion was a welcome relief though, considering most movies of this type set up (what is after all) a highly unlikely sequel. The Twist Will Delight You or Incense You - c4th
The writing of director David Twohy takes a young couple and places them in a very vulnerable situation. Our newlyweds are trekking some wilderness on Kauai of the Hawaiian Islands when they and other vacationers hear of murders in the capital and reports that the key suspects may be on Kauai. The atmosphere is set for a thriller that places a new skin on a classic theme in a beautiful wilderness. Suspense builds with growing suspicions about other couples encountered along the trail. The red herrings are very overt but the story keeps you guessing all the way.
Most people will enjoy the first two thirds of this movie and many will enjoy it from beginning to end but some may find themselves rolling their eyes at the closing third. Twohy takes a huge risk by introducing a twist that is such a reach it will delight many but incense others. Many viewers may feel they’ve been had - had by controlled dialogue, selective omissions and a number of other deceiving tricks by the director. There is also a glaring lack of clues offered, which ironically may be the biggest clue we receive about who is responsible for the murders. For most however the turn of events is a total surprise. Accepting viewers willing to roll with the concept find it a real treat.
I do have to criticize Twohy for a key editing decision. In the extras we find the originally scripted ending that was tossed out in favour of one totally inconsistent with his amazing reveal. Why oh why?Suprisingly good - RubikusIV
I was worried that the movie would be the same type as b movie thrillers, but was suprised when it was actually not. The story line keeps you guessing, and it not predictable. The beginning part of the newlyweds gets to be a little much, but that is only for the first 15-20 minutes. This is first movie I have seen Mila not killing zombies or military figures. She actually gets to show she can act. Worth the rent.
