Skip this one and watch Coco Avant Chanel. Although you would then miss Shirley MacLaine as the elder Coco. She is the only reason this got 2 stars. The rest of the cast including McDowell give dull performances. Very very very very disappointing. Hiring a pretty cast does not make up for a glossed over Hollywood version. Again - watch Coco Avant Chanel. The French understood her.Review - Coco Chanel - maw-
After being so disappointed with Coco Avant Chanel, this movie was a big breath of fresh air. Shirley McLaine is fabulous as the aging Chanel, and Barbora Bobulova shines as the younger Chanel. These ladies really give the sense of Chanel as a mover and shaper, rather than the awkward and strange portrayal by Tautou. Yes, the movie is a bit long, whatever. True Chanel fans will not mind that, and I did find it held my interest. This movie is also good for those wanting a bit more of an overview of Chanel's life, and is a bit truer to timelines.Too Long - Glenn_K9
I was somewhat disappointed in this film. I thought how could you miss with the great Shirley McLaine, but the movie completed lacked glitz which is what I was expected for Coco Chanel. The movie seemed terribly long and I found it hard to sit through to the end. Some of the history was interesting and it didn't lack in plot. The fashion part was gorgeous but again I was disappointed that there was no glitz!
