Lying
Five women. One weekend. Too many lies.
When a long weekend brings four women together in the countryside, each of them is forced to navigate the depths of social interaction as virtual strangers. How well do we really know the friends we make in adulthood? And in an age of lies, what can be made of the person who tells untruths so small they serve no obvious purpose?

Ugh... I had to *force* myself to sit through this entire movie. Continuity was bad... story was stupid. I can't help but wonder how much of the action was ad-libbed. I can picture the director saying: "Just run around and act like 10-year-olds for a while." Sorry, but I thought the entire movie was just tripe.God Awful - FodderMK
I couldn't watch more than 20 minutes of this. I like "slice of life", but this was horrible. Crappy dialogue, terrible acting. If you're going to film something about everyday activities, you at least have to making in engaging in some way - beautiful lighting, moody music, something. Just watching a bunch of people do nothing does not make a movie.
And I don't know if it's the director's skewed view of women, or what; I couldn't stand these morons. Maybe it's because I don't have female friends that are idiots, but I certainly didn't care or relate to anyone in the film. BO-RING.I found the cure for insomnia! - PFHLTB
If you have trouble sleeping and would like to avoid using sleeping pills ... just rent this "movie" instead. I put the word movie in quotes because this is more like a series of brief scenes thrown together that lead nowhere. There's no beginning, middle, or end to this thing. You could literally watch the movie backwards, or even randomly watch different chapters (using your DVD remote) and still not really notice that you were watching the scenes in the wrong order.
The Overview from AMG makes it appear that something interesting will happen, but nothing does ... unless you count seeing a few glimpses of Jena Malone wearing some slightly see-through tops while not wearing a bra, interesting.
This "movie" was made for only $150,000 (mentioned in the dull interview extra), filmed in less than 21 days; the 26 page script (mostly an outline of events that occur) was written in two days with many of the filmed scenes improvised by the actors, and the original Director's Cut was about 2.5 hours in length; trimmed mercifully to only 97 minutes (as mentioned in the mostly dull commentary).
Film summary: The girls buy groceries, cook dinner, play croquet, etc.; Leelee Sobieski spies on the girls, waves signalling flags for no reason, talks to Chloe Sevigny, and then it ends. Zzzzz.
Special Features:
(NOTE: Both the Canadian and USA versions of this film contain the exact same features)
- Todd Haynes Interviews Director M. Blash on Lying (33 min.): DULL! GRADE C-
- Audio Commentary with Jena Malone, Chloe Sevingy, M. Blash and Producer David Guy Levy (he hardly says anything): Mostly dull. GRADE C-
Both Jena Malone and Chloe Sevigny are included on the audio commentary and even though they failed to add anything that interesting, I still needed to listen to it because it was better than the "movie" (which isn't saying much). M. Blash introduces himself as: M. Blash. I suppose he's a fan of M. Night Shyamalan.
