Edison & Leo
Deception Was His Greatest Invention
In your typical family, the father is not a magnetic, amoral and womanizing genius, the deceased mother is not immortalized by a forty foot metallic replica, the youngest son does not have electricity literally crackling through his veins, and the older son – together with his robotic wiener dog Pickle - does not pledge to overthrow the entire family order.
The Edison family, however, is far from typical…Shot in Stop Motion animation, Edison & Leo is a wildly emotional and sumptuous ‘fairytale-gone-wrong’ about inventor George T Edison, his electrified son Leo and one fully charged coming of age story.

Definitely not for young (or even older) children. How far will a man go for science? And not a very good or moral man at that. Blood, sex, gore, revenge - you name it, this movie's got it.
**SPOILER**
The part where George the mad scientist had to drink the spit from the tribe of women made me gag. You can tell from the beginning that he's not a faithful husband and you'd think he'd try to redeem himself by trying to save his wife, but even that he's just trying to hide what he did. And then to just drop her for the sake of another artifact - well, obviously, he didn't learn his lesson.
And the ending wasn't very good either (yes, I watched it all the way through). Oh, my father's dead? And he built a robot replica of himself? Oh well! I'm leaving, Dad!
Bah. Not worth watching.Waste of time - stevelec
I enjoy unusual films and unique animation. I liked Jan Svankmejer's Faust and Alice and the films of the Brothers Quay. Edison and Leo captures none of the eerie life nor the sublime strangeness of those works.
Edison and Leo is a boring, poorly conceived mess of a film. It could generously be described as 'original' if doing the opposite of every good storytelling idea is original. I don't insist that animated features be Disney-like kids stuff, but the mere fact that you put adult themes in a film doesn't make it mature. Different is not the same as good. The spit-drinking scene alone is enough to make me recommend that no-one bother watching this piece of rubbish. Few things I have ever seen on film have made me physically retch (and I've seen Requiem For a Dream, I'm not somebody's grandfather). It's irritating that my Canadian tax dollars probably helped fund this. Blecch.Pretty darn cool. - KeithTalent
An odd and at times creepy little stop-motion animation film about a mad scientist Father that gets his family into a good deal of trouble with various factions after helping himself to a few artifacts he uncovers around the world. It's a cool story and there are some pretty damn neat moments (a couple of kick-ass beheadings for example)to make it fun, though it does lull in a couple of spots to not make it a complete winner.
