Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story
His mother gave him the courage, his faith helped him believe, his brilliance gave him the power to change their lives.
Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. (Actor in a Supporting Role, Jerry Maguire, 1996) stars in this true story about a renowned brain surgeon who overcame obstacles to change the course of medicine forever. Young Ben Carson didn't have much of a chance. Growing up in a broken home amongst poverty and prejudice, his grades suffered and his temper flared. And yet, his mother never lost her faith in him. Insisting he follow the opportunities she never had, she helped to grow his imagination, intelligence and, most importantly, his belief in himself. That faith would be his gift - the thing that would drive him to follow his dream of becoming one of the world's leading neurosurgeons.

This film was a great one to provide hope. Cuba Gooding did a very good job with this character. The story kept you wanting more and verify who the true doctor was. I definitely recommend this one. The actress who portrayed the mother was also quite good.Beautiful Documentary - anwallette
This story is a beautiful one that shows how a disadvantaged boy grew up to a world-famous neurosurgeon because of his mom's faith in his abilities.
Ben used his talents and gifts to achieve the life that he always strived for.

My whole family was inspired by this movie. If you like true stories about true accomplishments then you will probably be inspired by this movie.
If you prefer unrealistic Hollywood scripts with lots of action, nudity, sex or innuendos, then you won't be impressed.
Yes, there were a couple of weak spots, e.g. when he was dealing with his anger problem. The time switch into the next scene was too abrupt. But Cuba Gooding does a good job and so do the other actors.
The special features were also inspiring. It was encouraging to see the humility of the real Ben Carson.
For families:
No, it's not necessarily *exciting* but it's a good family movie. No nudity, no sex, and 1 profane word that I didn't notice the first time I watched ("go to h---", I think, was said, but it was so quick I'm not sure.)
Also, there are two brief somewhat violent scenes. (Put I'm picky so maybe most won't think anything about it.)
