In case my review title doesn't say it all, allow me to elaborate. I really didn't like this movie. I was a fan of both the original "Fame" movie and television series. This remake should be ashamed of itself. There is almost a complete lack of character development and story line. This remake is merely a poorly connected series of musical numbers. I would have given this movie a one-star rating, were it not for the fact that some of the music was rather decent.Fame in a word: Lame - Iqalumiut
2 major problems with this movie:
1. You cannot do a re-make of Fame and leave out the classic street dancing scene
2. This version was so much less realistic. In the first Fame it showed how hard it is to make it in the industry - the older good looking student was found working as a waiter 2 years later, the comedian struggled to hold it together, etc. But in this version, it felt like everyone became a star, everyone got a happy ending.
Much less grit in this version. Don't waste your time. I can hardly wait for the remake of Footloose to be released (insert sarcasm here). Is nothing sacred!?Lame - grantalias
What a disjointed, directionless film.
I had fond memories of watching the TV show in the 1980's and was looking forward to this. I didn't even finish watching it and my wife who did was not at all impressed.
I'm sure that this was made as a more adult version of High School Musical, except that it wasn't very good.
With such a large cast of characters it's difficult to become invested with any of them as we spend so little time with each. They are very one dimensional characters.
