The Answer Man
In the romantic comedy The Answer Man, Arlen Faber (Jeff Daniels) is the world's most sought after self-help guru with one small problem: he doesn't like people. Author of "Me and God", a book that's been translated into 100 languages, Arlen seldom leaves his house until an act of God forces him into the hands of Elizabeth (Lauren Graham, Gilmore Girls), a single mother raising her seven year old son. What they find out is that love us unpredictable and neither of them has a clue.

A different angle to the rom-com but in the end not that unique. Cranky man meets woman who changes his life and makes him less cranky, meanwhile said woman realizes she needs him, too. Oh, and they throw in a kid on her side to soften the cranky man. The end.Worth the rental - valdezzz
I wasn't expecting much when I first set off to watch the film but was pleasantly surprised by how much I actually enjoyed this movie. It was definitely one of those movies that leaves you smiling at the end. It started out very slowly but picked up and and came around nicely.Good characters, and a mature approach to the rom-com - bartonfink
I quite liked this movie, and found having a third major character to be quite refreshing. Reminded me of "As Good as it Gets", but more subdued. My main complaint was that the 'revelation' at the end was way too obvious, but if you go with premise established in the opening that his book was a worldwide unquestioned success than it works well enough and the character moments shine through a weaker plot.
