The Stepfather
Daddy's home.
When Michael Harding (Penn Badgley, TV's Gossip Girl) returns home from military school, he finds his mom is madly in love with her charming live-in boyfriend David (Dylan Walsh, TV's Nip/Tuck). At first, David appears to be the ultimate nice guy and an ideal future husband and stepfather. But when Michael and his girlfriend (Amber Heard, Zombieland) start delving into David's past, they begin to discover a dark and dangerous side to Michael's new "daddy" in this riveting, chilling thriller.

The antagonist of this movie is phenomenal and I hope they make a prequel(explaining how he got this crazy). My real problem lies with the kid from Gossip Girl. I find his range of monotonous acting very bland and a bit disgusting. I mean, I think he's brilliant in Gossip Girl but I really don't like character transference from project to project.
This is a decent movie but not one I would care to watch again. Not bad - RachelM
I did like this movie, I hesitated renting it since it seems to be a predictable movie of the evil stepfather slash serial killer... but I was hooked from beginning to end. I would recommend that you rent it to find out how the story unfold for yourself. The Stepfather - djfunkybob
Critically, so much is wrong with this retooling of the forgotten 1987 original. In reality, you will get caught up in the psycho stepfather character to the point you are hooked. I suppose much of the credit goes to Walsh who embodies innocence, but epitomizes evil with subtle looks and unsuspecting, yet unhesitating, brutality. Unfortunately, many of the relevant characters are unappealing or suffer from inconsistencies. The wife is portrayed far too docile and trusting for a woman burned by her first husband. The oldest son’s girlfriend is supposed to be smart (but comes across furiously dense) and devoted to him (but dismisses him when he needs her the most). Also, did anyone notice that all the other kids gradually became afterthoughts when they served no purpose in the script? My advice is to ignore the holes and engross yourself in the rather simple story.
