Budgeting at 40 million, grossing under half proves to be universals biggest loss since Indiana Jones latest prequel.
Amelia could have been 2009's best Motion Picture, starring Oscar winning favorite Hilary Swank whose track record was almost emaculate proved to be her biggest flop.
Directed by Mira Nair Amelia Earheart on paper appeared promising and guarenteed a classic in the making. Amelia Earhearts whose Career was news worthy and still sustains the growing womans movement with an impressive expedition across the world twice. The film mirrored Amelias
tragic ending After suddenly disapearing, without a trace. Her dark last days shrowded mystery that would co-inside with the movie premiere release and the perfect timing to her discovered remains unlocking the truth of her where her last days had been. Whats worse is the mystique disolved, and the movie bombed at the theatres. Coincidence? I think not!Amelia - djfunkybob
I was glad that I finally saw this film since I knew very little about the famous pilot other than she died lost at sea. Her accomplishments were truly extraordinary for a time when women's rights were in its infancy – especially, in areas such as aviation. I would have been happier if the film focused more on her career, her adventures and her influence on aviation as we know it today. Instead, the film spent too much time on her love triangle. Gere’s portrayal of Earhart's husband was as flat a performance as I have seen from him in quite some time and Swank and McGregor didn't stand out much either. The director, Nair, is known more for her Indian and indie films and may have been out of her comfort zone with this big studio biopic.Missed opportunity - Spare42
This should really hve been a great movie. Earhart's story is exciting and it ends in a mystery. The movie is far from exciting; it is a series of cliches. The screenwriters should apologise for destroying what should be at least entertaining... It can be resumed as such: A lame love story trying poorly to describe the life of an aviation pionner. I bet if the story was that of a man, it would be based ont he dangers and the excitment of his life instead...
Avoid this movie, rent a bad horror instead. At least, you'll know that the movie you're watching is supposed to be bad...
