The Box
You Are the Experiment
Push a red button on a little black box, get a million bucks cash. Just like that, all of Norma (Diaz) and Arthur Lewis's (Marsden) financial problems will be over. But there's a catch, according to the strange visitor (Langella) who placed the box on the couple's doorstep. Someone, somewhere - someone they don't know - will die.
Cameron Diaz and James Marsden play a couple confronted by agonizing temptation yet unaware they're already part of an orchestrated an - for them and us - mind-blowing chain of events. "Somebody pushing your buttons?" a woman asks. From filmmaker Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko) and a short story by Richard Matheson (I Am Legend) comes a gripping sci-fi mystery thriller that pushes' em right.

A disfigured NASA employee named Arlington Steward informs Norma (Cameron Diaz) and Arthur that they have 24 hours to decide if they want to push a button inside a box that will give them a cool million -- but a complete stranger will die at the same time. I enjoyed this movie very much. Great ending. Not a great movie - Silverthorn
The story had a good premise and interesting dilemma: get 1 million dollars and have someone else in the world die or not take it. The worst part of the story is the filler after the decision was made and the stipulations that the person who made the offer did afterwards. It did not have too much strong of a point.
This is why I disliked the overall movie. The idea is pretty obvious but the execution of the story was weak. The Box - djfunkybob
This is a great example of a curious, original story that just wasn't a well produced film. Diaz and Marsden delivered below-average performances in a film reminiscent of old Twilight Zone episodes sprinkled with modern zombie and horror film aspects. Other than the appropriately simplistic box itself, the most memorable component of the movie is Langella’s eerie turn as a “messenger” and box distributor. The director (Kelly) should try to move in a different direction for his next film as there were too many commonalities to his overrated Donnie Darko.
