stunning visuals, a few plot holes - Boudica
Visuals in Meanwhile City are fantastic! Really thoroughly done.
Rest of the plot is missing a few elements. I found that there was not quite enough going on to have me glued to the movie.
Great choice of actors makes this watchable.
Good to see for the visuals, but as a character and writing fan, I can't say that you're missing a lot if you don't see it.It's just that..... - IoanGuest
Okay, so I would agree with a few other reviews out there. The casting felt wrong, and none of the characters were fully developed enough for me to care what happens to them. I did greatly enjoy the visual aspects of the movie, which was an impressive creative mash of Terry Gilliam and Tim Burton with the Gothic mini series Gormenghast. I feel it's worth renting, but it is not likely to make the shelf of my collection at home.Almost a great film... - Jooki
Franklyn is a good film that presents an intriguing idea, but spreads the attention of the audience a little too thin.
The stories of Jonathan Preest and Peter are clearly integral to the film, and more focus should have been placed here(more so with the story of Preest).
The story of Emilia was well done, and held interest fairly well, while the story of Milo seemed misplaced and gave the movie a disjointed feel.
Both the story of Emilia and Milo should have belonged to a different film, to allow more developement to the Jon Preest/Peter storylines. Doing so would have made a great film, not simply a good film with an original delivery.
