The Other Man
A taut thriller, The Other Man is an intimate tale of a man who discovers his wife's infidelity and sets out to track down his rival. Driven to pursue the mystery surrounding his wife’s adultery, Liam Neeson embarks on a global pursuit with a haunted passion that begins to probe the nature not simply of jealousy, but of loss and forgiveness.

The first half of the movie was good. We enjoyed watching the banter between the two and how Liam Neeson's character got information out of Antonio Banderas' character. There is an interesting twist to the story but once Neeson reveals to Bandersas who he is, it all kind of goes downhill from there. It was OK, but not sensational.Aspects of Love - Stitch
Prepare for a minority report. We were totally captivated by this uncommon examination of relationships. And ignore the synopsis and previews; it’s not a mystery and within ten minutes you’ll have the crux of the plot line. Yes, there’s a little twist along the way but it does nothing to detract from the questions raised. And not answered. Like life. In fact my bride and I agreed this film can only resonate with mature couples--with the emotional mileage to appreciate the context and the nuanced progression of response. And I can appreciate that viewers led astray by the synopsis feel betrayed.
It’s simply a story of love and loss intermingled with questions of commitment and betrayal. It moves slowly and not always predictably but patient viewers will admire a singular performance by Liam Neeson. It’s his film and he is superb. As husband and lover, he nails the entire gamut of emotion from rage to bewilderment to something indefinable. Some may cavil at the ending; those who’ve lived long term commitments can appreciate choices driven possibly by love but ultimately by emotional survival.
The supporting cast cannot be faulted. Banderas has a difficult persona to render believable; I thought he did just fine with the necessarily abbreviated character development. Laura Linney was chosen I suspect for her reputation for convincingly conveying complexity, and those of you who cannot summon empathy have not lived enough.
Don’t be concerned with critiques of the flashbacks. Once you pick up the context of events, they fall in place and help establish that this will not be a simple tale. Perhaps the mystery description derives from the many background clues that fuel our introspection throughout. Agreed, it is marketing misinformation to lure unsuspecting viewers.
Highly recommended but for a limited older audience noted above. Or for those who marvel at and appreciate the intricate interface of commitment, fidelity and trust.Let Down - griffy
Liam is an awesome actor but he did not write the script so I cannot blame him for me not liking the movie. I would give it 2-3 stars but most of the movie was about finding answers and when they are found the outcome is so anti-climatic. I found it confusing & at times illogical. I hate movies with unrealistic endings because that is what you remember.
