Paper Heart
A story about love that's taking on a life of its own.
Charlyne Yi does not believe in love. Or so she says. Well, at the very least, she doesn’t believe in fairy-tale love or the Hollywood mythology of love, and her own experiences have turned her into yet another modern-day skeptic.
Follow Charlyne across America as she and her good friend (and director) Nicholas Jasenovec search for answers and advice about love, by talking with friends and strangers, scientists, bikers, romance novelists, and children. They each offer diverse views on modern romance, as well as various answers to the age-old question: does true love really exist? Charlyne’s pursuit to discover the nature of love takes on a fresh new urgency when she meets a boy after her own heart: Michael Cera. As their relationship develops on camera, her pursuit risks losing the person she finds closest to her heart.
Combining elements of documentary and traditional storytelling, reality and fantasy, Paper Heart brings a fresh perspective to the modern romance and redefines the classic love story.

Don't expect much and you'll like it. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it were clearly fact or fiction. From the first 10 minutes you already know how it will end, but it seems as though it was supposed to be a surprise twist. But both Michael Cera and Charlene Yi are adorably awkward and definitely have chemistry onscreen.just "meh" ... - tylerwharper
PAPER HEART wasn't horrible and it wasn't great. We were kind of confused at times, as we wondered what was scripted and what was genuine, heart-felt dialogue. At one point, we even did an IMDB search on Charlyne Yi to find out her real age because she acted like a 15-year-old most of the film. She wasn't 15, but, in fact, 23 at the time.
Our favorite parts of PAPER HEART were the paper mache vignettes used in the personal stories. The vignettes were a fun way to add color to the storyline.
Again, PAPER HEART definitely isn't an Oscar contender, but it's not a total snore, either. If you're looking for lighthearted entertainment, PAPER HEART would do just fine.Fun and Sweet - 1writer
This semi-scripted, semi-documentary is great fun to watch. I wasn't immediately drawn to the film, but thought I would try it out for something different. I was so pleasantly surprised by this charming little movie! Charlyne Yi is extraordinarily likable in her quest to find out what love is. She starts dating Michael Cara after an awkward meeting at a party, and although the awkwardness continues throughout their relationship you will find yourself completely rooting for the two to find happiness together. Uplifting, cut and fun.
