Vivid. Memorable. Stupid. The Book was better. - KevinJaques
The movie was directed by Peter Jackson, director of Lord of The Rings, so it was vivid and fantastic, with plenty of special effects, but long.
The murdered young girl was adorable, a barely pre–adolescent red–head. I’m not sure I bought her supposed rage and hatred. The killer was chilling and very believable, as if I would know.
I had found the book initially novel and cheering, with a new approach to ghosts and life after death. It's always nice to imagine such things. But then I found the murder to be horrible, and the continued details of the after–life to be pointless and silly. Much the same process happened with the film, but maybe more so. The book had a lot to say about grief and families, but the movie really didn’t.
Ultimately, they were both memorable and novel, but mostly pointless, the book beating the movie.Intense - RV_BOLO
A very "lovely" but intense movie that takes you right to the edge but doesn't cross it. Incredible acting by the future star playing 14-year old S. Salmon, and a great supporting cast. Tucci as the villain is absolutely chilling...Ghandi or Mother Theresa would want something bad to happen to this guy! Great movie, possibly too intense for some.I heard bad things.... - donkeypunch
...but mostly from people who had first read the book. I understand that the details in a book are difficult to duplicate within a two hour movie. My opinion may have been different if I had read the book, but this was a really enjoyable movie. Now I can go read the book.
