Randy Newman's songs are the star - doublereed
A completely original story in a richly drawn 1940's Louisianna. The expected high Disney standards on all fronts, including some exceptional voice work, set off by a score and songs by the great Randy Newman that stood up to the several repeat viewings my five year old daughter demanded. Some fairly intense scenes for little people, but she managed to watch without covering her eyes.not for little kids!!! - jobalene
i have a 3 yr old and this movie was way too scary for her! thankfully she only watched the first half, which wasn't as bad as the second. evil shadows take people, characters die and are buried on screen, and people's blood is taken for voodoo magic. explaining evil shadows from her own and why a character got killed and where they went, is not something i want to do just yet and i almost had to from watching this film.
besides that, the story was too busy for my taste. i'm a huge pixar fan and will stick with them.
this movie should NOT be rated G!Disney returns to its roots - Darkside
In spite of the glut of computer-generated animation that is filling large and small screens alike, Disney took a step back in deciding to return to what has in the past made them so successful - and it paid off.
Driven mostly by a compelling storyline and lovable characters, this is a good movie for both children and adults alike.
It takes a fairly well-known fairy tale and turns it on its ear, throwing it in the deep south at the boom of the jazz era. This allows for key plot development and fantastic songs - a staple for every good Disney movie.
Hopefully for some children, this will stand up as a modern classic, like the Lion King or Aladdin.
