The Book of Eli
Eli walks alone in post-apocalyptic America. He heads west along the Highway of Death on a mission he doesn't fully understand but knows he must complete. In his backpack is the last copy of a book that could become the wellspring of a revived society. Or in the wrong hands, the hammer of a despot. Denzel Washington is Eli, who keeps his blade sharp and his survival instincts sharper as his quest thrusts him into a savage wasteland... and into explosive conflict with a resourceful warlord (Gary Oldman) set on possessing the book. "We walk by faith, not by sight," quotes Eli. Under the taut direction of the Hughes Brothers (Menace II Society), those words hit home with unexpected meaning and power.

Denzel Washington doesn't disappoint ! - Michelle1
30 years later we see the devastation and the people that are left to survive it. Lawlessness and corruption, combined with interesting characters along the way lead Eli right into the lion's den. Some scenes tended to drag on just a bit but worth the rent to see how it all unfolds !Eye-opening - ryu2cool
I've long been a Denzel Washington fan, and now consider this to be his finest performance ever. Mila Kunis was excellent as well. I've read some of the other reviews for this film and it would seem that many of the reviewers are bending over backward to declare that the movie is not "religious". Well, in my opinion, it was very spiritual and was basically about the power of God in directing His servant to adhere to His Will through many extreme difficulties over a period of 30+ years in order to eventually accomplish the goal that God had intended. The movie begins in the final trial of Eli's journey and we are allowed to observe the constancy of Eli's "walk by faith, not by sight". It is a tale of beauty in a very bleak world.Gary Oldman is a baaad man... - telefon4
This is a solid movie, Denzel is good as usual-the material supports him here. The Huges Bros(From Hell,Dead Presidents) give this a very apocalyptic feel, and sturdy direction to boot. I'd forgotten how evil Gary Oldman can be after his turns in Harry Potter and the Batman films,he's one nasty bastard here.
