Gentlemen Broncos
From the Creators of Napoleon Dynamite Comes Another Unique View of the World
Mount your battle stag, grab your popcorn balls and get ready to laugh your head off at Gentlemen Broncos! The director of Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess) and co-star of HBO’s Flight of the Conchords (Jemaine Clement) team up to bring you the story of Benjamin Purvis (Michael Angarano, Snow Angels), a lovable loner whose life is turned upside down when a pretentious fantasy author steals his story at a writers camp. Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie) and Mike White (School of Rock) join a hysterical cast of oddball characters in this "fun, quirky comedy." (People)

The story could have interesting if it wasn't presented in such an over the top context. The movie is set in an even more exaggerated universe than the Napoleon Dynamite world, where everyone, absolutely everyone is a freak but not in a funny or endearing way. It's all just stupid and annoying. The films is trying to be whimsical and quirky but fails at this and ends up being tiresome and not the least bit believable. I expected better from Jemaine Clement and ended up very disappointed.Hess hits it our of the park - Gaucho
One thing "Nacho Libre" and "Napoleon Dynamite" has taught us is that you can tell a story where the jokes are almost overstated while the plot, character development, and tension is all understated. It's a strange mix, often times giving the viewer the feeling of "okay, is ANYTHING happening". This is part of Hess' seduction, found in this very funny comedy.
A bit darker and more crude than his former offerings, it still keeps a lot of the innocence of his previous movies. The acting is amazing, with many of the people channeling characters often times unfilmed previously in Hollywood, and there are some sharp, gross-out moments not for the timid.
If you are a fan of his works, this is a must!i don't know how to feel - TheKeywork
You'll be riveted by this movie as it poses the question: Who keeps giving these guys money to make movies?
I don't know the answer to that one, but unlike Nacho Libre, I could make it all the way through Gentlemen Broncos. Why? I can't answer that question. this movie just was...
It wasn't laugh out loud funny.
It didn't have any really quotable lines.
The acting was fairly decent.
The directing was adequate.
The only part that I really wanted to see more of was the Yeast Lords film.... that was incredible. Everything else just....was...... nothing more, nothing less.
But I'll admit, I felt the same way after watching Napoleon Dynamite the first time...it just was... but upon repeated viewings I grew to love that weird little film.
Maybe I'll have to watch this again.
