My daughters loved the books. So we rented this movie. Different from the book, but still great. There is so much happening in this movie, it's really captures your attention. I bought this for my daughter this year for Christmas, and she has watched it over and over again. highly recommended by me!Actually, it was really good! - MinniePants
Yeah, it was totally a teenish flick, but it was meant to be! The special effects were good, the acting was decent, and we had a lot of fun watching this movie as a family. My daughter is reading the book at school, and was super excited to watch the film. Even my husband, who is a big D&D enjoyed the mythical creatures and action sequences. I'm surprise that it didn't get better rating!Pointless.... - BrightAngel
Before I watched the movie, I read the book by Rick Riordan. I was looking forward to seeing it transferred to the big screen, however, I was extremely disappointed. There were several things left out, no doubt due to time constraints, but the worst was not just what was left out but what was completely changed. The quest in the book seemed to be of dire necessity, but in this movie, it is hard to see why he is even on this quest at all. Wasn't there a million easier ways? Also, the movie seems to be copying every other movie as in the use of a map like Harry Potter's Marauder map. Why would his mother, a mortal, be able to find the gate to Olympus so quickly and the three magical ones can't? The deviance from the book made the movie seem pointless and ridiculous to me. Mind you, my sons 16 and 13 who did not read the book, loved the action and special effects. They thought it was cool despite the silly storyline.
