Hachi: A Dog's Tale
Based on a true story.
From Academy Award-nominated director Lasse Hallstrom (2000, The Cider House Rules) comes Hachi: A Dog's Tale, a film based on one of the most treasured and heartwarming true stories ever told.
Golden Globe winner Richard Gere (2002, Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy, Chicago) stars as Professor Parker Wilson, a distinguished scholar who discovers a lost Akita puppy on his way home from work. Despite initial objections from Wilson's wife, Cate (Academy Award nominee Joan Allen - 2000, Best Actress, The Contender), Hachi endears himself into the Wilson family and grows to be Parker's loyal companion. As their bond grows deeper, a beautiful relationship unfolds embodying the true spirit of family and loyalty, while inspiring the hearts of an entire town.

movies made about animals are very hard to make.this one was great in that it wasn't sappy. i thought it was very clever of the director to show some of the scenes through the dogs eyes in black and white, with just a bit of color.not many movies really explore the perspective of animals.most films focus on the twenty something age, throw in some sex,ego and violence. they follow a formula to make money.this film had this spark of originality, plus it is based on a true story that occurred in japan.a must see for sure.Beautiful Story - newdaysof
Hachi is the beautiful story about the incredibly strong love between man and dog. It's amazing how much we can love our pets whether it's a dog, a cat or horse, and how much they can love us in return. This bond can be as strong or stronger than the love we feel for the people in our lives. And ultimately, the story has a sad ending when either the pet or the person dies. In each case, the survivor mourns the loss and many times, never recovers from the loss. Such is the tale of Hachi.
Richard Gere is one of my favourite actors and he was perfect in this role. The dog(s) who played Hachi in this film were also perfect. Jason Alexander (George from Seinfeld) plays the role of a ticket agent in the train station where so much of the action takes place. It is good to see him in a serious role which will hopefully broaden his horizons.
Make sure you have a couple of boxes of kleenexes handy when you watch this film because by about the midway point, you're going to need them as the tears start flowing and don't let up until the end.Hachiko.. you stole my heart - ceiliqueen
I'm a bad person, what can I say. We had this from Zip for nearly 3 months before I would allow the family to watch it. Still wounded from last year's devastating pain of Marley & Me......
Yesterday... I said yes to the kids and for a good portion of the film we laughed at and related to the antics of the lovely character Hachi and his mind's view of the world around him. Then came the pain.. the bitter pain...
Fantastic movie.. bring tissues.. lots of them.
