Funny Farm / Spies Like Us (Double Feature) [Blu-ray]
Chevy and friends Chase down the laughs!
Funny Farm (1988, 104 mins): When Chevy Chase as a Manhattan sportswriter abandons his career for country life, you know getting away from it all will inevitably mean getting in deeper. Madolyn Smith co-stars as Andy's supportive wife. Together, the funny Farmers learn that the eccentric people and events around them outnumber even the mosquitoes. And that one mustn't brag about becoming Mr. Lamb Fries until knowing the truth.
Spies Like Us (1985, 102 mins): They're double agents without a sneaking suspicion of their assignment. But if it has anything to do with comedy, it's sure to be "mission accomplished" for Saturday Night Live alumni Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd, romping through their first movie together: Spies Like Us. As two government desk jockeys who cheat their way through a civil-service entry exam and (incredibly) become globetrotting undercover operatives, Aykroyd and Chase generate the verve and spontaneity of a Bob Hope/Bing Crosby road movie. (Indeed, Hope turns up in a cameo, golf club in hand.) Top Secret. Eyes only. And laughter assured.

Like the other reviewer, I zipped this Blu-Ray on a whim and regretted it. Chevy Chase is still a very funny man -- "Community," anyone? -- and I had remembered these films fondly from watching them upon their original release. But simply put, these films simply haven't aged well. What was hilarious in the '80s just seems hammy and dated now. Other Chase/Aykroyd comedies hold up well now -- the early Vacation films, Ghostbusters, Trading Spaces, etc. But not these.Bad - Sports
Got the blu-ray on a whim and totally regretted it. I remember the movies from the 80's, never classics but had their moments. Neither title has aged well and fall flat from start to finish. Both movies look about as good you can get them with the restoration for blu-ray but they are far from reference material.
