Trucker
Diane Ford (Michelle Monaghan, Mission: Impossible 3, Gone Baby Gone), a vivacious and successful independent truck driver, leads a carefree life of long-haul trucking, one night stands and all-night drinking with Runner (Nathan Fillion, Serenity, Waitress, Castle) until the evening her estranged 11-year-old son, Peter (Jimmy Bennett, young James Kirk in Star Trek) is unexpectedly dropped at her door.
Peter hasn't seen his mother since he was a baby and wants to live with Diane as little as she wants him, but they are stuck with each other - at least for now, while his father Len (Benjamin Bratt, The Cleaner) is in the hospital.
Burdened with this new responsibility and seeing the life of freedom she's fought for now jeopardized, Diane steps reluctantly into her past and looks sidelong at an uncharted future that is not as simple or straightforward as she had once believed possible.

good character study but missing in plot - tbird
the film is about a honky tonk working gal that drives a truck and lives a nomadic life.pretty juicy.she sort of has reptilian mothering skills, and she begins to soften. she warms up slowly. this part i found a bit contrived. we have seen this before in other films.the first part of the film was the strongest.you get a sense she is living on the dangerous side and that is intriguing.Subtle but deeply moving - Mellymel
This movie hit me hard. Life is tough for everyone in this movie, and it is unflinching in showing the cruelties. Michelle Monaghan, Benjamin Bratt and the little boy who plays their son, are all very natural real actors, which makes their lives even more heartbreaking to watch.A tale of courage, of the forgotten woman... - LH2006CA
So many films are about beautiful superwoman... If you are tired of seeing films a la Angelina Jolie, watch this great story of the average working class woman. The protagonist is a single female trucker who lives a life similar to her nomadic male counterparts in the trucking business. Yet for a woman, being a trucker entails hard choices men never encounter, such as the giving up of a career away from home, or the life of a mother. This is a touching story that every woman should watch, for it shows that femininity takes on many incarnations for the working class women. If you are tired of Hollywood fantasies, check out this moving story of a woman who is everything a human being can be. And surely her greatest beauty is in her heart...
