Diary of a Wimpy Kid
It's not a diary, it's a movie!
The hysterically funny, best-selling book comes to life in this smash-hit family comedy! Greg Heffley is headed for big things, but first he has to survive the scariest, most humiliating experience of any kid's life - middle school! That won't be easy, considering he's surrounded by hairy-freckled morons, wedgie-loving bullies and a moldy slice of cheese with nuclear cooties!

Capturing the fantastic humour of the book, this adaptation of Diary of a Wimpy Kid does a very good of transporting the characters and situations to the screen. The screenplay does not tone down Jeff Kinney's unflinching portrayal of childhood and thus, little is lost in the translation. The actors fit the roles perfectly and practically every joke hits. The best bits, however, are when Greg's doodles are animated and his interactions with his brother Rodrick. When the writers try to bring in an emotional sub-plot in the third act, it doesn't quite work as Rowley is too unlikeable to make me care. Nonetheless, as a whole, Diary of a Wimpy Kid succeeds as it not only manages to re-create Kinney's excellent books, but on its own as a funny ode to that strange period of time known as childhood.Great Family Movie - poohrules
I found it enjoyable for me and my kids. It is def a movie all can relate to. Very funny and true life lines in the movies. I think it woould really help preteens and teens who are still trying to find the pecking order. Being a teen is not something I would want to do over again. Thanks for such a good movie hope to see more from the novels!Good for everyone - Sunless
Disclaimer - I'm a 30 something with no kids, so take this review in that context.
It's not very often that a studio releases a movie that is fun for all ages. I don't have any kids, but wanted to see what the hype was about, and I loved it. Ok, I three-star loved it, but for movies lately, an honest three stars is pretty good. If you have read (and I use the word litely) the book, then you will especially appreciate the movie, as you will understand what little substance they had to work with in adapting it for the big screen.
As is typical with movies, most of the funnier bits were given away in the trailer, but there was still enough story to carry the movie to a full length feature.
