Alice
Welcome to a whole new Wonderland
Alice Hamilton (Caterina Scorsone), a fiercely independent twenty-something, suddenly finds herself on the other side of a looking glass. She is a stranger in an outlandish city of twisted towers and casinos built out of playing cards, all under the rule of the deliciously devilish Queen of Hearts (Emmy nominee and Golden Globe winner Kathy Bates). With the queen hot on her trail, Alice isn't certain which of the many characters of Wonderland she can trust to help her escape - and maintain a level head.

This modern take on Alice in Wonderland started slowly but with time it did gain my interest. There were a multitude of characters, and some familiar such as the rabbit who was depicted less literally. Kathy Bates made a wonderfully wicked Queen of Hearts and her son- Jack of Hearts- unfortunately wasn't as strong an actor but he was rather easy on the eyes. As for the story, it was a nice concept but it didn't improve on the storybook. If one tackles cherished stories the comparison will always be made. It was overall a fair film.Review - Alice - maw-
This is a very interesting spin on the Alice story, purists may not be happy! The childish innocense and wonder is gone - this is a grown up tale of intrigue and adventure. The only problem is the length. It was issued as a mini-series, and may have worked better that way in the DVD release.More of more of the same - Gaucho
I'm not sure what it is with Scyfy Channel, but they feel like our present day viewer can't sit through a classic so they must truncate it, dumb it down, and simplify it.
Carroll's original book is a fine read and is a proper cure to the present pop culture feed of our day; this is just the same formula of the mini-series, retelling the old classic with the promise of making it "better".
Still, it is a fun 3 hour watch. The acting is top notch, despite the tawdry script. This "Alice" is rather good, the actress is pretty commanding, she's very athletic, and easy on the eyes. The design is okay, but I tend to think it's more of Jefferson Airplane than Carroll.
