The Road From Coorain
Based on the bestselling memoir by Jill Ker Conway
Born in the 1930s on a remote sheep ranch in New South Wales, Jill Ker learns early to love the untamable land—and the allure of books. While her brothers attend boarding school, she stays at Coorain, working beside her beloved father and learning from Eve, her strong-willed mother. Theirs is a stoic family, but years of drought take their toll on Coorain and on the Kers. Jill endures several family tragedies, growing into a young woman of passion and ambition. But Eve buckles under the weight of grief, inspiring her daughter to break free and find her own way.
Winner of numerous awards, this visually lush, emotionally compelling drama is based on the celebrated memoir by historian Jill Ker Conway. Juliet Stevenson (Truly, Madly, Deeply) delivers an "invariably superb" (The Hollywood Reporter) performance as Eve. Also starring Katherine Slattery (Young Lions), Richard Roxburgh (Moulin Rouge), and Tim Guinee (Sweet Land).

this story lightly based on the biography of Jil Ker is beautifully screened. It looks just like the outback and toughness of the life there. So far of all the movies I have rented from zip this is by far the best one.
I remember the book well and there is some resemblance to the characters altho there is a disclaminer that it really is not a biography.
Jil is a remarkable woman and altho we only get a glimpse of her here you trust that her intellectual abilities will see her rise to greatness.

Poorly cast and incongruent.
Supposed to be the story of a young girl growing up on an outback sheep station, yet her parents dine with silver cutlery and candlelight. The mother is poorly cast (Juliet Stevenson) as she cannot pass for Australian in any sense. The script is choppy and hard to follow. You feel no warmth for any of the characters. Couldn't even finish watching it.
