Leaves of Grass
When Ivy League classics professor Bill Kincaid receives news of the murder of his estranged identical twin brother, Brady (both played by Edward Norton), in a pot deal gone bad, he leaves the world of Northeastern academia to travel back to his home state of Oklahoma. Upon arrival, he finds that reports of his brother’s death are greatly exaggerated, and he's soon caught up in the dangerous and unpredictable world of drug commerce in the backwaters of the Southwest.
In the process, he reconnects with his eccentric mother (Susan Sarandon), meets a wise and educated young woman who has bypassed academia in favor of the gentler rhythms of life (Keri Russell), and unwittingly helps his troubled brother settle a score with a pernicious drug lord (Richard Dreyfuss) who uses Tulsa, Oklahoma's small Jewish community for cover. Leaves of Grass follows a twisting narrative path merging crime drama, drug comedy, classical philosophy and sudden violence in pursuit of answering one of humanity's oldest questions: What does it truly mean to live a happy and constructive life?

This movie does have an irksome predictability about it, leading to a disappointing finale of pursuit similar to a thousand other movies. This film hasn’t developed the desired ability to massage the ideal amount of complication out of the screenplay, and while passably engaging and even semi-poignant, it just doesn’t contain the urgency to sufficiently rouse the senses. No preconceptions - Marys
I had forgotten what this movie was about, so when I watched it I didn't know what to expect. It's the kind of movie where you keep calling out "No, don't agree" but of course, then there would be no movie.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and although I don't like violent movies, it really wasn't.
My only disappointment was that it ended a bit up in the air. I suppose you are supposed to make your own mind up about where the character's lives go. Apart from that, I give this movie a total thumbs up. And Ed Norton is a brilliant actor. He looked, sounded and moved so differently as the two brothers that I didn't know at first that the second brother was him!Surprisingly Strong - ABC99
Leaves of grass is deep, existential and painful. It is also goofy, violent, and very funny. At first Edward Norton doesn't look right in duel roles as a cultured professor and an ambitious hick pot dealer.
This is a film that felt uneven at first but had powerful things to say about life, death, and family. It is brutally violent but the violence has purpose, showinf the animal nature of man. This was a big surprise for me.
