The Secret in Their Eyes (El secreto de sus ojos)
2009 Academy Award Winner - Best Foreign Language Film
Recently retired criminal court investigator Benjamin (Ricardo Darin), decides to write a novel based on a twenty-five year old unresolved rape and murder case, which still haunts him. Sharing his plans with Irene (Soledad Villamil), the beautiful judge and former colleague he has secretly been in love with for years, Benjamin’s initial involvement with the case is shown through flashbacks, as he sets out to identify the murderer. But Benjamin’s search for the truth will put him at the center of a judicial nightmare, as the mystery of the heinous crime continues to unfold in the present, testing the limits of a man seeking justice and personal fulfillment at last.

Haunting - crazyboutmovies
This is a magnificent film, albeit one that is difficult to classify. It is in part crime drama, part legal thriller, part love story, but mostly a story of human beings struggling to live under difficult circumstances - the story is set in Argentina under Peron (need we say more?)
The director, Juan Jose Campanella, manages to take us back and forth in time, and allows the story to unfold at a perfect pace.
The casting for this film is perfect, and every one of the principal parts acted with their hearts, their souls, and of course their eyes. They create characters that the audience feels for and cares for.
The beautiful music does much to highlight the emotion as well as the drama.
At the end of this incredible experience, one is left satisfied that the world is as it should be.Wonderful film - BillBC
Beautifully acted, beautifully filmed, fascinating story. You can easily see how this film won an Academy Award. Despite the gloom and especially the corruption that it depicts, it's the kind of film that you feel better, perhaps more human, after seeing. Very highly recommended. An excellent film - sal33
This cautionary tale reveals the pitfalls of revenge. It's beautifully shot and the acting is superb.
The writing was masterful and the film at all times is engaging and engrossing. A wonderful emotion rollercoaster ride.
It is one of the best films I've seen this year.
