Please Give
From the Writer/Director of "Walking and Talking," "Lovely & Amazing" and "Friends With Money"
Married antique-dealers, Kate and Alex (Catherine Keener and Oliver Platt) plan on gutting the apartment they own next door to expand their own pad once Andra, the cranky, elderly widow (Ann Guilbert) who lives there, finally dies. When Kate, conflicted with her own guilt, befriends Andra’s granddaughters (Rebecca Hall and Amanda Peet), the results are anything but predictable in this devastatingly funny comedy that examines life and death… and everything in between!

Wonderful, complex characters, sharp, realistic dialogue and patiently directed, Please Give deserves it's critical acclaim. Nicole Holofcener directs an intimate look at aging, compassion, guilt, family, and relationships in a remarkably graceful way.

This movie was really well-acted with some sharply written dialogue; I really enjoyed this movie and would recommend it. Its really a quiet movie to curl up with and watch on a gloomy Saturday afternoon. Recommended based on strong performances across the board.A solid character drama - napierslogs
"Please Give" is an independent, character drama. What I loved about this film was the interesting array of characters that it presented.
The characters that were on display for us to watch were all well written, fully-developed, interesting and funny as they each struggled with their moral dilemmas. I found myself being able to relate to all of them in one way or another.
The writer also leaves enough to your imagination so you can decide how much these characters evolved or learned over the course of the film. As you think about them, you find yourself applying these lessons to your own life.
The lack of plot leaves you wanting more because the best movies are usually able to deliver both plot and great characters. Although this is not one of the top echelon of movies, the compelling characters makes this better than most films you'll be able to find today.
