Columbia Pictures Collection: Film Noir Classics I
This double narrative follows two criminals involved in a dope smuggling scheme and the police who follow their trail of violence and death across the city of San Francisco. Making brilliant use of space and architecture, this film features and wildly disorienting car chase that culminates on the then-unfinished Embarcadero Freeway - literally, a road leading to nowhere.

The premise is somewhat ludicrous, the story is riddled with plot holes, and the first 20 minutes are a little slow. Despite all this, an amazing movie. Wallach and Keith brilliant as the psychotic bad guys. Meyer and Reed are also terrific as the detectives, just classic cops. The film makes fantastic of use of its locations. Although it lacks the shadowy look usually associated with the genre, it's balls-to-the-wall film noir through and through. An absolute blast with a hell of a climax.
