We were not particularly looking forward to seeing this movie until we saw it.
Amazing story that truly depicts the brainwashing communist China did over its people.
The dancing is amazing.
It is based on the true story of this young man and is both emotional and beautiful.
Don't hesitate to see this one.Upscale Billy Elliot! - gertie
We enjoyed this movie very much. The dancing was beautiful & the story of the very young Chinese boy taken out of his little village & away from his family & the only life he has ever known is well done. The story of this dancer defecting was unfamiliar to me but the life under the harsh communist regime & the fact that he would not know that there was any other way to live makes it very poignant. The fact that so much of it was in Chinese with no subtitles didn't seem to matter. The story was easy to follow in the faces of the actors & the circumstances they were dealing with. Very good all around.A wonderful movie! - poppy1
We all really enjoyed this movie! It tells the true story of a dancer from China. Identified at a young age for his potential, Li is taken from his family to live in the capital. While his family and village are justifiably proud, he trains hard for ballet for many years. In addition to his ballet training, he is also trained in communist politics. As such, he is unprepared for life in America when he is selected for a short-term residency at the Houston ballet. His desire for freedom conflicts with his need to protect his family. There are no easy choices. I don't want to blow the ending, so just trust me and pick it up for yourself!
