Generally I enjoyed this movies but there was certainly something missing. I found Michelle Williams' accent throughout distracting, and it took me out of the movie far more often than it should have. Plus there's a number of inconsistencies in pacing and detail that left me knowing why this never became a big release or feature. It was enjoyable but certainly not great. A worthwhile view, but not something I will seek out or recommend in the future.Melodrama In No Way Resembles A Thriller - c4th
Just because a movie includes a terrorist bombing, it should not be presumed to be a thriller or even an attempt at one. Incendiary is a slow moving melodramatic piece about a mother grieving the loss of her son and in no way resembles a thriller.
The main story line is not a story at all – just a heavy dramatic depiction of a grieving widow and mother. The movie is not driven by a plot but by a narrated reading of a letter written to Osama Bin Laden as part of the girl's therapy. I have to give credit to Michelle Williams for her portrayal of the young grieving widow. The writing calls for an emotional over-the-top performance and that is precisely what she delivers.
The writers feign the introduction of numerous interesting side plots with such abruptness I continually found myself thinking I had dozed off and missed something. Each one is abandoned just as abruptly after one or two short scenes and ignored for the remainder of the movie. Even the Ewan McGregor character introduced as a major love interest initiates a critical task and is thereafter noticeably absent from the screen for most of the movie. I hesitate to refer to these segments as distractions from the melodramatic core since they provide the only glimmering hope for interesting developments but they do create a totally disjointed piece with no sense of direction.
As we approach the conclusion, we finally get a sense of what the creators are trying to say. I do mean trying. It is at this point we realize the movie has no point worth hearing. They get it so wrong. Instead of emerging from her guilt ridden grief victorious and strong, our main character comes across more like an air head. I’ll show you Bin Laden. You can try to destroy life but you will never be successful as long as there are women like me in the world. I’m about to ... Well If I went any further, that would be a spoiler, wouldn’t it. Wouldn’t want to do that!Michelle Williams=Underrated!! - 0930tracey
Wow, I really had no idea what to expect when this showed up in my mailbox. This movie took me on such an emotional roller coaster. Michelle Williams is definately one of the greatest actresses of my time. I remember watching Dawson's Creek and just knowing she would have a great career. This movie is very heavy and you may need a few tissues, but it's worth the watch!
