Well I originally took out this movie because I am in love with the duo of Gervais and Merchant. However, the only time I seemed to enjoy it was when they were on the screen.
It's obvious they were trying something different and out of their comfort zone and I applaud their efforts. However the story seemed too cookie-cutter to feel like an original movie. The characters were likable enough but under developed and rushed. There were no big emotions in this, so it didn't feel like a comedy or a dramady, it kind of felt like it was hovering in this limbo from beginning to end. I loved Fiennes and Watson here, but they didn't have enough screen time. Instead, the film seemed to hover around these 3 underwhelming imps that get into trouble but no one actually cares (?).
Anyway, the saving of the film was the music and it was put to good use. There were a few funny moments and good cameos, but this was a mish mash of good and stale, so you can take it or leave it.Cemetery Junction - Derekstar
Man, I wanted to like this so badly. It felt way too conventional, and I was expecting something different. It's such a shame. I even wanted to fall for the ending like a sad sap, and I almost did, but the movie never earned that moment. I didn't really like the group of three friends. Somehow we've seen this same group of people in every movie, ever, and yet they remain a group of unrealistic archetypes rather than real characters. I kinda liked the movie though, but with better characters it could have been good.
