The Kids Are All Right
Academy Award nominees Annette Bening and Julianne Moore star in this funny, smart and vibrant portrait of a modern family. Nic (Bening) and Jules (Moore) are a suburban couple raising their two teens, Joni (Mia Wasikowska, Alice in Wonderland) and Laser (Josh Hutcherson, Journey to the Center of the Earth), in Southern California. But when the kids track down their "donor dad" Paul (Mark Ruffalo), an unexpected new chapter begins for everyone as family ties are defined, re-defined and then re-re-defined. Fall in love with the big-hearted comedy that critics are calling "one of the best films of the year!" (Michael Phillips, At the Movies)

This movie does have an irksome predictability about it, leading to a disappointing finale of pursuit similar to a thousand other movies. This film hasn’t developed the desired ability to massage the ideal amount of complication out of the screenplay, and while passably engaging and even semi-poignant, it just doesn’t contain the urgency to sufficiently rouse the senses.A Film About Family - Mookie
3.5 movie with a good heart. There are things the film does extremely well and other things that grated on me a bit. The acting is wonderful and I think each character (even Paul - Mark Ruffalo) gets enough time so we know where they are coming from. The moment at the end with the daughter being dropped off at college really struck home for me and reminded me of my loneliness on that day in my life. Being separated from your family for the first time. The message of how important family is really worked. However, I feel they left the story of Paul unfinished and depressing. I also feel Annette Bening's character was too shrill and one dimensional. I also feel Lesbiens should be rightfully irritated about the choice one of the characters makes in the middle of the movie. While the movie is a bit ambiguous about where it wants to go I still enjoyed it and the performances in it.This Kids Are All Right is more than alright! - moviewatcher101
I really enjoyed this movie. The acting from all cast members was excellent. It's hard for a movie to be bad when the script is as fantastic as this one. For a Hollywood movie, I was pleasantly surprised that the characters had depth and the story unfolded without ending up being a typical Hollywood formula movie. I loved that this movie while about a gay couple transcended sexuality to focus on the relationship between parents and how searching for one's biological parent can cause changes in all family members. A great movie!
