Predators
The hunt is on.
Robert Rodriguez presents Predators, a bold new chapter in the Predator universe. Adrien Brody stars as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors in a mysterious mission on an alien planet. Except for a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers - mercenaries, mobsters, convicts and death squad members - human "predators." But when they begin to be systematically hunted and eliminated by a new predator breed, it becomes clear that suddenly, they are the prey!

The story is VERY close to the original film, only it takes place on another world – and with multiple Predators. Personally, I didn’t mind – it’s a basic story but for what it is, it works. There were multiple nods to the original – in particular, as a big fan of Predator, I appreciated the music played during the closing credits. But even within such a simple framework and for the sort of film it was, there were problems. In particular with the doctor, who while he didn’t fit in and I didn’t guess his purpose there – when it was finally revealed it seemed completely out of whack. And while I enjoyed seeing Laurence Fishburne in the film (who gave a great performance, by the way), he was kind of a non-sequiter and while how he came in was cool, what his character ends up doing is pretty stupid. I also had a problem with the ending, with something obvious missed by Brody’s character, and a fight scene that should have been epic but was shot in such a way that I could hardly make out what was happening. Overall, despite these issues, I enjoyed Predators a LOT, and that’s coming from someone who’s a big fan of the original, doesn’t even remember the first sequel, disliked Alien vs Predator and despised Aliens vs Predator: Requiem. Not bad - PeterParker
I generally enjoyed this movie. There have a billion gladiator/hunted for sport stories out there and this one is not at the top of the heap, it does have a couple nice touches. The best of which being the plot to find their way off the planet...not just survive their ordeal.
Brodie as the bad-ass is alright although I found his hoarse voice to be comical at times. I thought they borrowed from Lost somewhat with the wake-up-in-the-jungle opening and wondering if they were dead.
I still prefer the first, but this was decent.Special effects with some acting - RubikusIV
It is what it is. The special effects are very impressive. There is no story line. You are left to piece it together as you go. Adrian Brody does a half decent job of acting. The rest are more or less stand-in (insert action figure 'A' here, etc.). You get to see a different side to the Predators. They are shown as more than just hunters. You get to see a little off their hierachial structure, and a how they are interested in a more competitive hunt, not just an easy kill. A very good action movie.
