The Experiment
Everyone has a breaking point.
The Experiment is a remake of the powerful German psychological thriller movie Das Experiment. A group of ordinary men are chosen to participate in the roles of guards and prisoners as part of a psychological research study examining how the effects of assigned roles, power and control affect the participants. Travis (Adrien Brody) plays the de facto leader of the prisoners, where Barris (Forest Whitaker) is a guard corrupted by the power he’s been given. Values are tested and lines are crossed when seemingly normal participants are pushed to the breaking point as the experiment spirals out of control.

Well this was kind of silly. - KeithTalent
Adrien Brody, and various other guys including Forest Whitaker, signs up for 14 days in prison as part of an experiment (this is based of the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment). This movie just did not really work for me. I liked Adrien Brody, he was good (I like him in general) but the writing in this film was just awful. The entire first 15 minutes was very obvious, blunt foreshadowing of what was to come it came to a point where I was saying, ok this guy is going to do this, this other guy will do this, and I was dead on. I also felt the whole thing hit the fan far too quickly and easily and it just seemed quite unbelievable to me. I think there is a good film in this story, but I have a feeling it was already made in Germany as Das Experiment (I've not seen it yet, but I can only assume).Interesting - MovieBuff123
Wow I sat down to watch this movie the other night and I did not expect to see a great movie. I was very surprised it was pretty good I enjoyed it. The premise was interesting and unquie. I have never seen a movie like this one. My only complaint is that they ended way to quick they appeared to rush the ending. But this movie is worth the watch! Not worth it!!!!! - HotTubber
The Experiment is a remake of Das Experiment, which was based on a book Black Box, which itself was inspired by the 1971 Stanford prison experiment. A couple dozen men who volunteer for a simulated prison experiment. The men are assigned the role of either guard or prisoner presumably to study the effects of power and control on their psyches and behavior.
If you're up for some bloodlust entertainment, this violent Experiment certainly has enough energy and brute force to keep you mildly amused. It also features a few Oscar-winning actors whose mere presence and energy slightly lifts mediocre material. Leaner and meaner than the more cerebral 2001 German effort, this flashier entry hits us over the head too much in its attempt to disguise itself as a message movie, and makes some questionable character choices that highlight its weaknesses (almost as weak as its gay prisoner!). I give it 2.5 stars
