The Secret of Moonacre
When 13 year old Maria Merryweather’s father dies, leaving her orphaned and homeless, she is forced to leave her luxurious London life to go and live with Sir Benjamin, an eccentric uncle she didn’t know she had, at the mysterious Moonacre Manor. Soon Maria finds herself in a crumbling moonlit world torn apart by the hatred of an ancient feud with the dark and sinister De Noir family. Maria discovers that she is the last Moon Princess and, guided by an unlikely mix of allies, she must overcome her family’s pride in order to unearth the secrets of the past before the 5000th moon rises and Moonacre disappears into the sea forever.

The Secret of Moonacre (The Best Movie Ever!!!) - TheWiz
The Secret of Moonacre is about a young girl who lost her parents and is living with her pride-filled, annoying uncle who just won't tell her anything. She is stuck with him and her nanny, Miss. Heliothrope, who talks alot, especially about "trapped wind". Then she finds out she's a moon princess and the real story begins. It's all about her quest to find the pearls and bring both famil'ys back together again. And with hte help of Mr. Marmaduke, Robin, Loveday, Mrs. Heliothrope and Digweed, she brings the Merryweathers and the DeNoirs back together, with a liitle sacrifice. I think all the actor's were perfect for there roles, and I especially LOVED Robin, who is played by Augustus Prew.

While a little slow in pace at times this is a good movie that I enjoyed for the most part.
Dakota Richards was very good as Maria Merryweather, and put in a performance equal to what she did in The Golden Compass. In a way the two characters remind me a lot of each other.
I recommend The Secret of Moonacre. While maybe a little slow at times it's a very good watch, entertaining to adults and children.Next up for MST3000 - Jughead
Please rent this to see how horrible it really is. It falls into the "it's so terrible, it's great!" area of film response. I saw this at the TIFF with some friends; half-way through the movie we all turned to each other to validate this was bad; it's very easy to go Mystery Science Theatre on this puppy. The plot is confusing, the setting of Moonacre is not really explained... is it our world, or a world like Narnia? The only reason that this was made was because this is J.K. Rowling's favourite book. I read a plot synopsis of that book, and it seems like a completely different story than what made it to the screen.
