(Untitled)
Contemporary art gallerist Madeleine falls for Adrian, a brooding new music composer in this comic satire of modern art. The two struggle to find their own artistic success as the streets of Manhattan bombard them with artists from Adrian’s commercial brother to those one who uses taxidermy and household objects. An intelligent and hilarious film, (Untitled), delivers a talented cast and a fresh take on the art world.

An hilarious, critical and yet respectful view of modern art - napierslogs
An hilarious, critical and yet respectful view of modern art, "(Untitled)" is an indie film that takes on the contemporary music and visual art scene of New York.
Adam Goldberg is perfectly cast as Adrian, a slightly neurotic but completely out-there "musician". First to his detriment, but then more to his success, his brother Josh (Eion Bailey) introduces him to Madeleine (Marley Shelton), an art gallery owner who is against the commercial stream but can find the next big thing. Josh is the only remotely down-to-Earth character, but even his art looks like blobs of colour on a canvas--to the untrained eye like mine. The "music" that takes over the film is what people like me would call noise, but people like Adrian would call a true artistic expression of the human condition.
It is less accessible than "Art School Confidential" (2006), but just as funny and more focused on the indie art scene. Like one of the artists in the film, I think the film is trying to say nothing and everything at the same time, and just like modern art can be, "(Untitled)" is just plain weird.

Speaking of art, I'd rather watch paint dry than this flop. Roger Ebert liked it and now I don't like Roger Ebert.
The idea of artists thinking that anything they produce should be considered "art" is an old and tired idea.
I also don't understand why Adam Goldberg gets hired, but I wish he would go away and paint himself into a corner. That would be artistic.
If you have time to waste, I'd recommend this film. If not, go watch paint dry ... it's a lot more interesting and "artistic."At last--a real comedy. - Stavros
If you love art, this film is a must-see for you. If you are a contemporary artist, this film is a must-see for you. If you run an art gallery, this film is a must-see for you. If you are an art critic, above all this film is a must-see for you.
This intelligent, hilarious, witty satire-burlesque gave me all the stomach pains you are supposed to get from a truly funny comedy. (Think Marx Brothers playing it straight, or, better, Woody Allen in top form. Everything is played straight--the characters have no idea of their absurdity. And if there is burlesque, the burlesque is always satirical and pointed, and the satire has serious meaning. There is a well-developed plot and we come to care about its outcome and its main character.
I loved this film.
