The Other Guys
Includes both the Unrated Extended Edition (116 mins) and Theatrical Version (107 mins)
Misfit NYPD detectives Gamble and Hoitz (Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) are sentenced to life behind the desk. They hate each other and the monotony of their meaningless jobs, as they're forced to live in the shadow of the two biggest and most badass cops on the force (Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson). But when those guys go down for the count, opportunity knocks for Gamble and Hoitz. Stumbling onto what could be one of the biggest crimes in years, can The Other Guys step up their game to solve the case without killing each other and destroying NYC in the process? From the director of Step Brothers and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

The first ten minutes are hilarious:Samuel L Jackson and The Rock spoofing police buddy movies in an impressive and inventive chase scene. There are a few other scenes in the movie that had me laughing out loud. There are also a lot of scenes that go nowhere, are limp, a little twisted, and lack any energy or ideas, as if the two leads were expected to improv their way through the gaps in the script. This applies especially to the roles of wife and girlfriend; the scenes for both had awful writing. One worships a husband who insults or dismisses her, the other suddenly reunites with her ex when he keeps following her and having a meltdown. Both roles were creepy. It's as if no writers were hired, they just made it up on the spot.
Some of it was tasteless, making me glad I chose the theatrical version, and not the unrated one. I never want to see another vomit scene.ridiculously funny - kokom
If you don't mind entertaining but not so clever humour then give "The Other Guys" a chance. Will Ferrell is in typical form playing an odd but very likeable character. You will need to pause the show while laughing so be prepared. Michael Keaton as the boss is an interesting choice and makes you wonder where he has been in the past years. The show is not high brow humour but is good for a laugh Keep your expecations low and you will be pleasantly suprized.Pretty Funny!! - 0930tracey
I definately laughed out loud quite a few times during "The Other Guys". I knew Mark Wahlberg was funny, but he really stepped up with the laughs in this one, matching Will Ferrell laugh for laugh.
Okay, so it's kind of a lame comedy, with a lame story, but it's good for a light comedy movie night. Zip it!
