The plot is also next to non-existent, the big "growing as a person" revelation is Cera (1 dimensional Character) admitting that cheating on his ex and dumping her was a bit of a douchey thing to do (no duh) and really it's just like watching an "ironic" Mortal Kombat with fancy CGI Special effects.
To a videogame playing comic book nerd with a love of ironic humour such as myself, Scott Pilgrim (on paper at least) seems like the perfect movie. The wannabe rock star slacker living in Toronto meets the woman of his dreams but finds he has to defeat her 7 evil exes to win her heart. Only to make more enemies then followers.Had potential but didn't cut it - Silverthorn
This movie had potential, in my opinion, but it just didn't cut it. The story and characters were just not appealing although the special effects were okay. I wouldn't recommend this film to others because of the fact that it failed to capture my interest throughout the film.
I may be in the minority, but I think you can skip this film.Original and a Visual Treat - Mookie
I read the graphic novels first and I think that helped me appreciate the movie and know what I was getting into more-so than people who just saw the movie. Overall, I think the movie did a lot of things better than the novels (tighten up the story, more satisfying ending; some inventive visual tricks) but it did fail to fully capture the charm and magic that was in the novels themselves. I really like Michael Cera but he was poorly cast as Scott Pilgrim. Scott should be a cute, charming but dim witted character and Michael is not cute and has trouble pulling of dim witted. The rest of the cast was pretty spot on (Knives Choi and his roommate Wallace were perfect).
I enjoyed this movie and I loved seeing Toronto play a part in this movie but I can understand how the quirkiness that made the graphic novels such a hit didn't fully work in the movie. However, I could see myself watching this movie again and liking it even more the second time.
