The Town
As he plans a job that could result in his gang’s biggest score ever, a longtime thief plans a way out of the life and the town while dodging the FBI agent looking to bring him and his bank-robbing crew down. In addition to heading an electrifying cast, Ben Affleck also directed and co-wrote this suspenseful, critically-acclaimed crime thriller that unfolds - and often explodes - across gritty Boston locations. Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Titus Welliver, Pete Postlethwaite and Chris Cooper also star.

This movie does have an irksome predictability about it, leading to a disappointing finale of pursuit similar to a thousand other movies. This film hasn’t developed the desired ability to massage the ideal amount of complication out of the screenplay, and while passably engaging and even semi-poignant, it just doesn’t contain the urgency to sufficiently rouse the senses.beyond the cliché - JimmyMontreal
This film was enjoyable, and the character development made us appreciate life on the criminal side as well as any HBO drama.
It's impressive in that no one expect Ben Affleck to be able to carry himself, and yet he does.
There's action, there's dread, there's a little mystery, and of course the plot elements are woven properly (some are dropped so hard you can't help but notice - hence they make it into the trailer - while others are far more subtle and show only upon second viewing).
What? Second viewing? Yes, I saw the film first on an airplane flight and liked it enough to watch it when I could actually hear the dialogue.Impressive - Philip75
The Town emerges as a slick, action / thriller with enough human interactions to create balance. Affleck exhibits a careful eye as director, and the screenplay is compelling and tight. Inevitably, there are loose ends, which culminate in an almost inappropriate positive conclusion. Most of the performances were strong, though Chris Cooper was underutilized and Jon Hamm was a one dimensional walking stereotype. Blake Lively was laughably hideous, struggling to embody the life-worn street whore with a fresh face and youthful vigour. All in all, The Town is a strong and worthy snapshot of crime and human desperation.
