Well I watched the movie for about 20 minutes and then realized I had seen it before. Part of that is because I am getting old but partly because it wasn't a wow movie for sure. It had some laughs and enough action to keep my teenage boys happy. Some innapropriate parts...too much cleavage if you ask me but our family standards are quite high in that area.RED - Relatively Entertaining Despite... - CanAmerican
Despite what? You name it: Cliche retired black ops members. Cliche gunfights. Cliche corrupt politicians. Or the biggest cliche - a cast filled with big names aimed at rescuing a really weak story from becoming a film flop.
So what is there to like? Well, if you like stories about black op (me); gunfights (me); or big name stars doing what they do best (me) then this film is right up your alley. If, however, you are the artsy-fartsy kind looking for some deeper meaning in film or fresh new ideas you are way off the mark here.
Take this one for what it's meant to be. Your cast comes from "Die Hard", "Con Air", "Seven", and "The Queen". So you have two action heroes, a suspense movie staple, and a good looking old broad with a great sense of presence. You're not getting "Gone with the Wind" from this cast. But you do get a lot of fun and style.Great cast; good to great movie - whp123
I agree with Richard Crouse. Any movie where Helen Mirren is shooting off a machine gun is good. Seriously, great cast delivering the goods plus great action sequences and a good enough story equal good/great very entertaining movie.
I especially liked Karl Urban in that fight scene with Bruce Willis in CIA HQ. Oh, he really did a good job acting out the pain that his characters was going through.
It was also a treat to see Ernest Borgnine in his scenes as Henry, the records keeper. Nice to see "very mature" actor on the screen.
