The Special Relationship
Never underestimate the politics of friendship.
In 1993, Tony Blair was a rising young star in British politics. Three years later he ran for Prime Minister – and began a "special relationship" with U.S. President Bill Clinton that endured through triumph, conflict and personal scandal. HBO Films presents Michael Sheen, Dennis Quaid, Hope Davis and Helen McCrory in the behind-the-scenes story of two world leaders who forged a loyal, if tempestuous, friendship out of the crucible of political necessity.

The Special Relationship is an interesting depiction of a short-lived political friendship - moviemonger
The Special Relationship examines the connection between the former US President Bill Clinton and Prime Minister Tony Blair, who wanted to implement their ‘centre-left’ agenda and who shared similar political views until their friendship ended due to events such as the Monica Lewinsky affair and the war in Kosovo. Indeed, the film opens with a quote from Oscar Wilde stating that, “a true friend stabs you in the front”. The Special Relationship Features a top-notch castGood political drama - DINGHY
This is a compelling docu-drama that should please anyone interested in the relationship between Blair and the U.S, especially in light of what happened later when George Bush was the President. I found the acting convincing -- especially Sheen, but also Quaid (their voices and mannerisms were strikingly true to character) and the portrayal of Hillary and Cherie was equally good. I really wanted the film to continue and hope there may be a sequel sometime! Full marks to the director -- this wasThe acting was not that special - Amateur
This film seems like it is composed of research and is informative about the relationship between the two leaders. Therefore, I appreciated the story. However, the acting was a bit of a problem for me, especially when Dennis Quaid is considered. It is not that he did a bad job. But, he was not able to make me forget that he was acting. This was not the case with Michael Sheen. Nevertheless, if politics interest you, this is one that you can try.
