Centurion
Fight or die.
Centurion is a gripping survival thriller set in early AD Britain. Quintus (Michael Fassbender, Inglourious Basterds), the sole survivor of a savage raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus' legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe out the terrifying tribes known as the Picts. When the Legion is ambushed on unfamiliar ground, and Virilus seized, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to survive behind enemy lines with a small band of soldiers in a race to save their general and evade capture, torture and certain death.

A diverting 90 minutes - Doom
Neil Marshall provides his own take on the sword-and-sandal genre, blending it with his own love of grim tales of survival in the Scottish highlands.
Fassbender and his gang of survivors of the fabled 9th legion are the glue that holds the film together. Like any such tale of men bonding in the face of impossible odds, the film rises and falls based on how much you like the characters and their interaction. The action scenes are well filmed, and bloody, though at some points the camera loses the action. The plot seems straightforward enough, but there are a few nice twists here and there. I also like the sense that no-one is safe, and the treatment of BOTH sides as brutal, amoral, and bloodthirsty. Neither the Romans nor the Picts come off as clear good guys.
I could have done without Fassbender's voiceover, which rarely added anything useful, and the many similar shots of "dudes running through the woods" and "Olga Kurlyenko stands on a mountain top looking intense." The love story also came out of nowhere.A bit too silly - SpockClone
You can't really take this movie seriously, and you can't really enjoy it as a farce, it fails to fall into either category. The action scenes are graphically bloody, and totally unbelievable. They seem to want you to believe they are portraying a 'realistic' version of history, but at no point does it come across other than a Hollywood caricature. The movie is beautifully filmed, and the scenery is probably the true star here.
The acting is fair, but some of the casting is ridiculous. The 'typical' woman, is a twenty something babe with perfect teeth. Last time I checked dental care wasn't that great back in the Middle Ages. And I doubt if 22 year old babes were very high in the ranks of the military. If you can put aside these glaring contradictions with reality you may be able to enjoy this movie. The plot isn't much, but it's more a Gash'nSlash version of English History.
It's not a total waste of time, but it's close.amazing - TMTH
Overall a really good movie. Has a great plot line and fits with most of the historical things that I read about this era. I really like that time frame and the movie didn’t disappoint. Lots of action and suspense as a group or Romans try to avoid getting captured and killed by the Pics. The blood though seemed to be a little over the top for the fight scenes though. I’m no doctor but I don’t think blood flies out like its coming from a hose every time you get cut. That would be the only thing I didn’t like about the movie. Other than that I highly recommend the movie.
