Inside Job
From Academy Award-nominated filmmaker, Charles Ferguson (No End In Sight), comes Inside Job, the first film to expose the shocking truth behind the economic crisis of 2008. The global financial meltdown, at a cost of over $20 trillion, resulted in millions of people losing their homes and jobs. Through extensive research and interviews with major financial insiders, politicians and journalists, Inside Job traces the rise of a rogue industry and unveils the corrosive relationships which have corrupted politics, regulation and academia.

No need to be a conspiracy theorist. The facts are out there in plain sight, the economic meltdown of 2008 caused by greed, deceit, and openly fraudulent schemes within the big banks and investment houses. A horror story which continues with the same men and women in charge who caused the disaster in the first place. "Inside Job" is a masterful piece of muckraking. One of the best docs I've seen - KatieB
This is one fantastic documentary. Beautifully shot, clearly explained with lots of very illuminating interviews. I closely follow the news so I didn’t expect to learn much. But this doc encapsulated what led to the crisis perfectly and also offered lots of information I didn’t have. Wow, who knew that the elite universities were staffed with these scammers? Terrifying to think they have their tentacles everywhere and that obviously, this was not a one-off crisis but an ongoing problem with no obvious end in sight. If even Obama has caved to these people, and if the Americans themselves blithely let these multi-billionaires continue to scam them, where does it end? If only more Americans would watch this movie and learn from it, perhaps they could work to begin to fix things. Fantastically done.Horrifying exposé - Sigridmac
Inside Job is worth watching twice. It was very scary and disheartening to think that the same people who created the economic mess, like Larry Summers and Alan Greenspan, are still influential. Obama’s cabinet is also stocked with Wall Street people starting with the former Rahm Emanuel.
This documentary explains the financial collapse of 2008, starting with a history of the previous regulatory system, definitions of derivatives and CDOs, and what it means to leverage. I had a vague idea of what these were before I watched this, but the movie made that so much more clear. It also emphatically stated that this was not a partisan problem. It may have started with Reagan but we had eight years of Clinton and he didn't do zip about trying to tighten regulations. Obama is talking about doing that now but he didn't even try when he had a Democratic Congress for the first two years. Deregulation is dangerous because it encourages too many predators and people without conscience.
What I'd like to know is why some of these people aren't in jail. And it was really shocking to see how many are teaching in prestigious universities. Great. That means that's exactly what the business students will learn. Horrifying!
The only thing I wish the movie had added was a longer piece at the end suggesting where we should go from here because it ended on a down note. How do we get these people out of power? We’re not just talking about politicians – we're talking about the rating agencies, the universities, and all the major business firms, and Congress people who have signed a pledge not to raise taxes. This was a fabulous analysis of what went wrong, but who can tell us how to make it right in a practical and doable way?
