Lovely, Still
Robert (Martin Landau) is an elderly bachelor who leads an uneventful life. This Christmas, Robert is feeling the lack of family more keenly than usual. Then, one day, he comes home to find a beautiful woman in his house. Her name is Mary (Ellen Burstyn) and while Robert is initially shocked and angry, she quickly explains that she has just moved in across the street, saw his door open, and was worried. As Mary is on her way out, she turns to Robert and asks him out to dinner. Thus begins a late-life courtship that leaves the bachelor in a constant state of wonderment and surprise.

Starts off as a sweet tale of two older people finding love. It ends differently however, and if you don't know the plot, I won't spoil if for you. Suffice it to say that it's a surprise. Landau and Burstyn are excellent in this film, especially Landau. Very much worth seeing, and far from the candy-coated tale you might expect.Nicely done - Mano
I agree with the previous reviewer that this is NOT a Christmas movie. Very well acted by Landau,Burstyn,Adam Scott. Tells us what may be in store for us as we get older. Sad movie really.
Simple settings, some scenes were amateurish I felt...e.g., smoky scenes to indicate the cofusion in Robert's mind..well...some what tacky....the clinical signs and symptoms were well depicted. The ending is a tear jerker for sure.
Folks with parents with depression/dementia can relate to this movie. Just for the effort and acting alone I give this movie an A.More honest than most for its genre - napierslogs
"Lovely, Still" is a story of discovering love late in life. It has the potential of being schmaltzy like the similar "Letters to Juliet" (2010), but it manages to avoid that trap and displays much more honest emotion like "Away From Her" (2006).
Martin Landau is the oft-confused and bewildered Robert who quickly falls in love with the more out-going Mary (Ellen Burstyn). The supporting characters were particularly well crafted. I enjoyed Adam Scott as Mike, Robert's boss and friend, and Elizabeth Banks as Alex, Mary's daughter.
Set during the holiday season, "Lovely, Still" is charming and amorous. Recommended for fans of the genre.
