127 Hours is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston's (James Franco) remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers (Clémence Poésy), family, and the two hikers (Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara) he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet? A visceral, thrilling story that will take an audience on a never before experienced journey and prove what we can do when we choose life.

I had some trepidation before watching this movie. How could you sustain a movie with one character and one very narrowly defined location? What do you do with such a linier story line? A lot it turns out. With great use of flashbacks, dream sequences and the clever us of ‘video camera clips’ this movie had a great flow. What started as man vs. nature became man vs. himself keeping the plot and tension moving. A very well done and thoughtful movie. Makes you wonder what would you do?decent movie - jnfries
I can understand why this movie is so highly rated it is inspiring and the acting is phenomenal. I just plainly got pretty tired of watching it. I think they did the best they could with the story and added in a lot of flash backs to add character depth while he was stuck in the rocks. The beginning was good. Overall great acting but this story makes a better news story than a movie.Brilliant indeed1 - billie
I was so amazed by this movie. I expected it to be a horror movie,thanks to all the hype, but thought it would be interesting to see how any director could make a film that basically innolves one man, in one position, for the duration. The scenery and location shots were awe inspiring, and the way Ralston raced through the landscape really underlined how much he loved it there and was at ease. When the tragedy struck, I thought, ok, now it will get dull, but thanks to brilliant acting and directing, it only got better. It was hallucinatory: it took me into the altered state Ralston must have been in in order to do what he did. I was so altered that by the time he hacked into his arm, it was not horrible to me, only sensible and very very brave. A testament to the human spirit, a truly wonderful and unique film.
