Crowe stars as the husband of a woman accused of murder in Haggis’ tense drama. The film tests the boundaries of how relentless a man might pursue his wife's innocence and freedom. On the surface, the story is about taking justice in your own hands, but searching deeper, you will see the story is about unwavering love and the strength of family. The film builds nicely from character drama to something far more suspenseful. Haggis has the knack for directing complex human stories in an understated manner with purposeful characters and a pace ideal for keeping you on the edge of your seat.Best Movie of 2010 and 2011 - mtrig75
Paul Haggis proves why he is the best writer/director in Hollywood with this heart-pumping thriller. From the opening scene to the end credits it is an amazing ride with phenomenal performances by Crowe, Banks and a scene-stealing Liam Neeson. Rent it, watch it, buy it!Well Written Action Thriller - c4th
The action thriller, Next Three Days, delivers an adrenaline ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s a ride most action thriller fans will be delighted to take despite its few eye-rolling moments.
The premise on which it is built is wildly over the top. A wife and mother is wrongly accused and convicted of murder, then sentenced to prison. When appeals fail and provide no hope, her desperate husband, a college instructor, decides to plan and orchestrate an escape without her knowledge. Despite this far-fetched basis, The Next Three Days is a well written thriller paced to provide mystery and suspense. The purpose behind every preparatory move becomes apparent later as we watch the actual escape frantically take place.
Director Paul Haggis inserts just enough human dynamics to develop sufficient likeability factor for his main characters and then methodically begins to set up the action. Elizabeth Banks as the convicted wife and Russel Crowe as her husband are both well cast as a typical couple of parents whose lives are upset by injustice.
Loosen your grip on realism before you start viewing. This movie requires that you roll with it (even to the point of accepting an Internet hoax as factual). Accept its extreme premise and there is an enjoyable ride to be had.
