Fairly good, nice cast, silly story - lookingjust
The story is just silly, improbable and with many unlikely twists. Suspend belief though and it is a pretty good little film; mostly taken beyond dreck by the as usual superb and quirkly acting of Carey Mulligan. Andrew Garfield is also very good and Keira Knightley looks nice and fills the role ok. All in all not a bad film, although nothing special. A great example of a movie I'm grateful I didn't pay money to see in a theatre but was worth a night's rental. The future - past - screengem
While human cloning is not yet feasible, this is an eye-opening look at what its' unscrupulous or perhaps moralistically dead application could look like. I loved this movie for the questions it asks - would a clone be without a soul? Who deems what is important in life and who decides who is important and how? Beuatifully filmed and scored, this is a movie to watch when you are in the mood for deep thought or as part of a movie club - no 'Weekend at Bernies' application...Haunting Film - me4444
This movie starts off a bit slow but it is all to help you develop an understanding of the three central characters that drive the rest of the film. This movie wasn't what I was expecting based on the previews that I had seen, but it was a good and somewhat frightening premise for a film.
I was engrossed in the lives of the characters almost immediately, but I must admit I was a bit let down by their lack of creativity to get out of their situation. Also, I wish that there had been a bit of a glimpse into how the real world was and how real people were living now in this alternate reality. The cast is sparse and it is puzzling how in a world where life expectancies have been signigicantly increased and overcrowding should be a main concern, the roads are instead always deserted and every scene always seems suspiciously void of people.
In a way, the barren world helps enhance the artistic quality of the film and embodies the lonliness that the characters must feel by being trapped in this helpless situation, but it didn't seem very realistic to me.
Carey Mulligan, as always, is engaging and instantly likeable as the main character. I was also surprisingly pleased with Andrew Garfield as the male lead, and Kiera Knightley plays her role very well.
The themes presented in this movie stay with you after the film has ended and the beautiful scenery make this a film worth watching.
