The Fighter
Academy Award Nominees Mark Wahlberg (The Departed), Christian Bale (The Dark Knight) and Amy Adams (Doubt) star in this "remarkable" film based on the true story of two brothers who, against all the odds, come together to train for a historic title bout that will reunite their fractured family, redeem their pasts, and, at last, give their hard-luck town what it's been waiting for: pride. Micky Ward (Wahlberg) is a struggling boxer long overshadowed by his older brother and trainer, Dicky (Bale) a local legend battling his own demons. Their explosive relationship threatens to take them both down - but the bond of blood may be their only chance for redemption.

Not a huge Christian Bale fan, but he was fabulous in this feel good movie of hard knocks people rising to the top. Mark Wahlberg as always delivered an amazing performance. Amy Adams pulled off her gritty character, but she is better in her Enchanted and Leap Year roles. Story has been done a million times but I'd recommend this one!Not your typical boxing movie - above_bored
The Fighter stands head and shoulders above other movies in this genre, largely because of the incredible performance by Christian Bale as Micky Ward's older brother, Dick Eklund, once a promising young boxer in his own right -- sadly, turned crack addict. While Bale easily outshines everyone else in the film, there are a number of other top notch character depictions of Ward's family members - especially the family matriarch who has, it seems, persuaded everyone including herself that the destructive road she's dragging them all along is the best path for the family.
Triumph of the human spirit - in ways you may not expect. There is no shortage of heroes in this film and it really brings out the behind-the-scenes debts that are often owed but rarely acknowledged. Brother, father, girlfriend and yes, even Mom, in her own way, are just some of the people who helped keep Micky moving toward his goals.
Rarely does a movie accomplish what The Fighter does - I cannot recommend it highly enough. See it - you will be glad you did.All It's Cracked Up To Be - OlPappy
Interesting to see Mark Wahlberg play an understated role. Christian Bale is the star of this one and really should have been in the Oscar's Best Actor category rather than supporting. The actual boxing takes a back seat to the seedy side of Micky Wards's family who are desparately trying to get back into the spotlight. The Academy should have created an honorary award for the category of Worst Hair to give to the sisters in the Ward family.
