The Tempest
In this big screen adaptation of Shakespeare's mystical thriller The Tempest, the gender of the sorcerer Prospero is changed, into the sorceress Prospera (Helen Mirren).
Prospera's journey spirals through vengeance to forgiveness as she reigns over a magical island, cares for her young daughter, Miranda, and unleashes her powers against shipwrecked enemies in this exciting, masterly mix of romance, tragicomedy and the supernatural.

This is a good movie. Though it might not be clear why Prospero is a woman (Prospera) in Taymor's telling, Mirren definitely offers a superlative performance. In fact, Taymor's version of Shakespeare's classic is most interesting for its emphasis on and insight into 'Prospera's' psychology. The movie is well worth the watch for anybody with an interest in good stories, and particularly for those with some familiarity with Shakespeare.a beautiful adaptation - sooz
wow. there is no doubt Julie Taymor makes beautiful movies: Across the Universe, Titus and now The Tempest. based on the Shakespearen play of the same name, other than changing the gender of our lead character, Taymor remains pretty faithful to the original story. this play, with it's supernatural elements is the perfect choice for Taymor who creates a visual feast directing a great cast. Helen Mirren is great as Prospero who sets out to right a wrong done to her years ago.
